Walk or drive along the spectacular tropical "red road" (Kalapana-Kapoho Beach Road Hwy 137). Toward Kapoho, you will find beautiful rainforest coastal scenery. Swim at the warm pond, surf and picnic at Pohiki, or snorkel at the Kapoho tidepools or the Champagne Pond. Drive along scenic one lane roads that weave around trees!
Kehena clothes-optional black sand beach is a five-minute walk from the Oliana Guest House.
Historic Pahoa town with restaurants and shops is a 15 minute drive.
Hilo Airport is 25 miles away.
Volcanoes National Park is a 45 minute drive.
Be sure to stop for the island-style Maku'u farmers market on Sunday mornings. You'll find it between Pahoa and Hilo.

Toward Kalapana, when conditions allow, walk or hike to see the spectacle of of lava flowing into the ocean. Please note that the tradewinds blow the steam and vog away from the red road and away from from the Oliana Guest House.
